- Tropicana Danga Bay in Iskandar Malaysia will be developed by Dijaya Corporation into a mixed development township with service apartments, office towers, hotels and shopping mall. The project costing RM3.8 billion will be launch by September and is expected to take about ten years to complete. 30 July 2011
- New Solar cell plant at Senai Airport US-based solar photovoltaic cell maker Solexel Inc is investing up to RM2.8 billion over the next five years in a 40-ha plant in the Senai Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) in the Iskandar Project region. The investment will include research and development and help attract and build a local supply chain for chemicals used in the solar and semiconductor manufacturing industry. Senai Hi-Tech Park is the second high technology park in Malaysia and according to Solexel Inc president and chief executive officer Michael Wingert,“Malaysia had beaten its regional partners for the investment because of its 'well-established' solar manufacturing base, experienced workforce, existing materials supply infrastructure and business incentive package.

Bangalore based Biocon, one of the largest biotechnology companies in the world, will be setting up a production plant in Bioxcell in Iskandar Malaysia. Besides building the bio-pharmaceutical plant, Biocon is also setting up a R & D center which is expected to be fully functional by 2014. Total investments from Biocon is expected to be more than RM 500 million. Products that are expected to be made in Bioxcell includes Bio-similar insulin and insulin analogs for diabetes treatment. The new plant will be built in compliance with US FDA cGMP standards. Talks are also going on for investors from the US, France and South Korea on setting up biotechnology plants in Bioxcell.
- Iskandar Malaysia is set to receive some RM2 billion investments from Zhuoda Group, Beijing-based globalized real estate developer. The project in Medini North involves the development of a residential project on a plot of land for which Zhuoda bought for US$53 million (RM158 million). The project is expected to require another US$389 million (RM1.2 billion) for development. Zhuoda chief operating officer Yang Han Qing said the company, established 18 years ago, has a total asset value of US$7.8 billion (RM24.1 billion) and net asset value of US$6.6 billion (RM20.2 billion).
- Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) has announced the setting of an SME hub at Medini. The 121 hectare hub will cater to SME as they have been allocated RM2 billion syariah-compliant funding allocation from the recent 2012 Budget. Companies involving in the high-end technology, research, product development, business processing, telecommunications, and shared services are encouraged to set up shop at the zone.
In a joint statement by both the prime ministers of Malaysia and Singapore, it has been agreed upon that a new work group be set up under the Joint Ministerial Committee for Iskandar Malaysia. This after both prime ministers met for the third time retreat in Kuala Lumpur. The work group will promote the 'twinning of economic activities' between Singapore and Iskandar Malaysia.
Building on the momentum of warm ties, the two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in a range of areas, immigration, such as transport links, tourism and the environment. The Malaysian Prime Minister also hinted that the Malaysian private sector may sell electricity to Singapore. One of the possible projects that is on the table is an underground tunnel linking both countries as well as the cooperation between Singapore Airport and Senai Airport. Other topics touched on was a greater cooperation to train manpower for the SME's that have relocated to Iskandar Malayisia, joint ecotourism promotion between Singapore's Sungei Buloh Wetland and Iskandar Malaysia's three Ramsar sites of Sungei Pulai, Pulau Kukup and Tanjung Piai.
